Winter has left our garden!
And our beautiful flowers have come into their right places. Colorful hydrangeas, red, yellow and George Burns roses, Dusty Millers, and the first lemon of our little lemon tree popping up out of the ground to decorate our garden.

After these few blank lines below, there is a space to leave a message. Thank you for reading.
Dollar store your garden! Yes, you can put pretty little things in there from the dollar store. Oops, what if someone steals from your garden? Here’s the way that I see it. If someone steals these little quote things, perhaps they need them more than I need them. Wherever these messages are, they are good messages. So, share the joy. Find something creative, or positive or interesting for your garden, and place it there. When you find it at the dollar store, you are a step ahead of the game.
See it as donating one dollar to a needy cause. AND, if nobody steals them from your garden, then smile, and know that there are more good people in this world than there are people who do bad things. That’s always good to remember. Yes, the good outnumber the bad. And there’s every person in the world who is good. Perhaps some just need to be reminded to stay on the right path.
Add something wonderful to your lawn, even if you just have a plain green lawn. Add a dollar store item that makes your lawn YOUR lawn. Step out of the world of the Stepford Wives and know that each and every plain green grass yard can be a unique haven of individual ideas and sentiments.
Peace, and always thankful,
One of our lemon tree plants has developed some tiny flowers. This is one flower. Most of them fell off, but a couple remain.
How’s your lemon trees doing?
Any helpful hints?
Need helpful hints?
I do believe that soon , this year or next year, we might just have a couple of lemons off of this cool tree plant.
And so, it’s hot.
Keep cool and get to the beach before summer is over.
- A rock garden keeps the turkeys out of your yard
- A rock garden keeps the stray cars out of your yard.
- A rock garden, usually, keeps the weeds out of your yard
- Usually, a rock garden is maintainence-free, so it keeps the stress out of your yard
- Once completed, a rock keeps the expense out of your yard, because you do not need landscaper’s monthly fees.
- A rock garden, usually, will keep stray dogs and wildlife out of your yard.
These are only a few of the benefits of keeping a rock garden. Can you think of any other good reasons to build a rock garden? I would lobe your input on this.
Just having fun taking pictures.
The entry, is here. This is YOUR entry. Ask a question on any topic, and wait to see the answer here.
I’d be glad to do the research if I don’t know the answer
Okay, so this entry is all about the ant-cornmeal report. A few weeks ago, I put down a lot of corn meal, indoors and some outdoors. This is a purposeful effort to kill any ants that came indoors and to kill the next of ants outdoors.
It probably took about ta week or so, but we began to notice that the ants weren’t coming indoors anymore. And now it’s been about five days or more when we have seen no ants indoors at all.
So, the corn meal experiment is successful! At first, I didn’t think it was going to work because the corn meal that I purchased said, “NO GLUTEN”. However, it seems that corn meal works whether it has gluten or not.
So put all your chemicals and insecticides away for the year and go out and purchase corn meal as a natural solution to get rid of your ants.
Today’s art project consists of a small canvas. First I painted the entire thing a nice shaded blue, a few different shades of blue. Then I put a black border around it, in which I was going to put my picture. Lesson learned. In my haste, I used a temporary or washable black market to make the border. And then later when I went back to work on it, I had forgotten that the marker was temporary.
I had planned to go over the temporary market color with a permanent sharpie, eventually. Next I went back a few weeks later, (yes, weeks) to add more to the picture. This is a mixed media, collage/photograph on a stretched canvas .
Accidentally , I smeared the black marker and wound up doing that over. I found a pretty, wallpaper border of blue and yellow, and have started renewing my border on this project. The picture that I had painted on this canvas, besides the blue border is a palm tree on a tiny island. And I painted the whole thing in blue water.
I used a larger shell (larger than the palm tree) on the side of the picture and that will be my ‘sun’ , instead of a real sun. Will probably put a few more shells here and there and probably end up doing the tiny cartoon thing somewhere inside this project.
But not today. Somewhere in between beginning , finishing and completing this project, I will post a picture or two or more.
- It’s important
- It’s real.
- It’s healthy
- It’s timeless
- and it’s so very relevant in today’s world.
I am a photographer, by hobby, and to this day, I still just keep on taking pictures.
The featured photograph here is one of my (older) self-portraits. Heading towards the school building, the sun cast a shadow onto the sidewalk.
In the news, recently there was this article that speculated all sorts of bad things in Melania’s world. And of course, the article(s) is fake news.
Think on this one. Perhaps Melania has been staying away from the press because the press (most of it) gives Melania a hard time. Most of the mainstream press, usually, prints fake bad news, or rumors
Where’s the Golden Rule in this case? It’s just a question. It’s just an observation. But yet, that’s a very legitimate question, “Where’s the Golden Rule in this case on the issues of the press, and the First Family?
The picture with the big green leaf (the person is the shadow) is a picture of one of my granddaughters. The picture before that is a picture of my grandson. In that picture, he was sitting in the lifeguard tower, off-season, and in the leaf picture, she was standing on a wooden bridge in a wildlife sanctuary area. We were watching birds together, and she was checking out the chipmunks and other wildlife in the area. The “shadows” in the bottom row, the ones with the arches were taken outside of a small chapel. That picture is the inside of the chapel (as seen from outside) and the trees, the tree shadows were on the wall of the chapel though the trees were outdoors. The ‘featured’ picture is a moon shot that I took a few years ago, in Staten Island, NY, USA. The last picture is a shadow of a tree on a fence, in New York State, USA.
This month. May 2018, I’ve taken a few new shadow pictures but they are not posted here. I might post them in a few months or so.

Seriously, it’s time to stop using chemicals to get rid of household pests. If you have ants, and you need to get the ants out of the house, do not use chemicals, insecticides or caustic agents to get rid of insects.
FOR ANTS — there is a simple solution for these pests. Yes, they are God’s creatures, however, there is a problem if they are indoors. You don’t want these crawly things walking around inside your home. That is not a healthy situation.
You can move. Smiles, just kidding.
You can use any number of ‘corn’ solutions . Corn starch, corn meal, these both work well to get rid of ants. I’ve heard that they eat this stuff and carry it back to the nest and that all the ants die. I don’t know how this works, however, I ‘ve seen it work.
I’ve placed corn meal around the garden areas outside where there was a nest somewhere. (There were tons of ants but I couldn’t find the nest). Sometimes this worked. The one time this didn’t work was only because the birds at the corn meal. In this case, I tried corn starch. That worked and the birds wouldn’t eat that.
The dollar store had corn meal without gluten. I wasn’t sure that would work, however, I tried it anyway and that worked. Seems the ants like to come inside on the really rainy days, and that’s what they did.
I put corn meal on the counter == where I saw the ants. And these were the large black ants. And, like magic, the ants disappeared. The next day I saw only one ant. And then after that, there were no ants left indoors. I spread a few bags of corn meal outdoors, just in case. And so far, this is working.
The good thing is that the corn meal won’t harm the birds or other animals, yet ti does kill the ants. That works for me.
Just because the kids and the trial is not in the news, that doesn’t mean that the story is over. And it also doesn’t mean that this kids still need our prayers, our help and our support.
So this entry is for the Turpin kids and the Turpin adult kids. Protect those kids, because the perps, even as we read here, are probably plotting ways to get access to the kids and to the adult kids of the TURPINS.
I pray that the professionals surrounding the Turpin kids have stopped and continue to stop any and all access to the kids and to the adult kids . Then and only then will true healing take place.
Beautiful day out today. Hope that whatever you do , you experience something creative, something peaceful and something wonderfully positive.
The first picture is a picture of a classroom with students. The subject, that day was “pinhole cameras” . The instructor showed us how to make our own pinhole cameras. This was all a part of National Pinhole Camera Day in New York.
National Dill Pickle Popcorn Day!
Did you believe that?
You see, you can’t believe everything that is in type and you can’t believe everything you see in a blog or even in a newspaper.
I tasted Dill Pickle Popcorn at a local supermarket and decided it was delicious. And in this picture, I had just handed the bag of popcorn to my grandson. The look on his face is “Hmm, Dill Pickle Popcorn” ?
The interesting thing about this popcorn is that I don’t like dill pickles at all. I prefer half sour pickles. But I tried this popcorn anyway, and to my great surprise, I really like dill Pickle Popcorn.
Throughout my life, I’ve always loved two very special places, one is Coney Island and the other is the water, the ocean (in this case, the Ferry)
These pictures are of around the ferry area, and inside the building that houses the entranceway to the area. Silly me, I never took pictures of the actual ferry that day. In the past I’ve taken video pics of the ferry and the water and the ride. And I’ve probably taken hundreds of pictures of the ocean and of Coney Island .
Love the water, and one day in the summer or spring, I will venture back to take some more photos and to breathe in that totally special air that comes only when in contact directly with the ocean water.
Things that I remember to do, when I remember to do them.
- Before clicking that shutter button, check all four corners of the shot and all the areas around the margins of the photograph. Frame that subject properly , whether in the center or off to the side , paying attention, if you want to do so, to the ‘rule of thirds’.
- Look at your picture, through the viewfinder, and ask yourself if the picture is too complicated, too distracting or simply too ‘busy’ to really enjoy.
- Consider doing the photograph in a different color, or tone. Sometimes, depending on the subject, place or time, burnt sienna might be more pleasing than regular black and white or even than a color photograph.
- Portrait, ? Check the person’s head. There are all too many photographs that are portraits that have a tree or other odd thing sticking out of a person’s head.
- Brace yourself! If you are not using a tripod, then brace yourself against something to steady the camera. Or at the least, bring your elbows into your body instead of posing like someone doing the ‘chicken dance’ while taking that picture. This simple thing will eliminate most camera shake.
- Consider the ‘angle’ of the photograph. I ‘saw’ a picture once, before I snapped the shutter button, I decided to walk around a bit and really look at the different angles of the would-be picture. See the picture here. This is the best view that I finally decided on .
- Consider this — don’t bother with whatever others will think of your photograph. You are taking this picture for yourself and or to express yourself to others, or to remember a particular time, place or day. It really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of your picture, of your style or of your photographs. Just keep on keeping on and keep on taking those photographs!
- Practice. That’s about it. The more photographs you take, the more experienced you will be. The more mistakes you make, the more ‘best’ photos you will take. Practice, practice but above all, have fun while you are doing this ‘practice’.
Sometimes “wait and see” is the best option available to you.
In my life, four times , this principle or idea has managed to “wait and see” and have good results.
Today, at this moment I will have to get to that “Wait and See” motto or attitude
For now, I’m going to have to fall back on that since I can’t stay awake long enough to finish this entry.
These pictures “in circles” are each just a small part of the original photograph. But they are interesting even though you see a little bit of every photograph.

Birds and Bird Photography… there are all different kinds in this world. Personally, I don’t do much technologically perfect photography but rather , due to circumstances beyond my control , I focus on framing, and on the message rather than on the science of taking the pictures. So here goes, my imperfections , however I love all these pictures because I love birds, and these are real.
The nature , camping, bird videos are at my videography site here (Also, the cheese auction video and others are at this site – check this link )

Some of these photos are included in a project that I call,
“EMPTY SPACES” .. I took all the photographs, some recently, and some decades ago. All photographs are copyrighted. All rights reserved. No copies without prior written permission.
The first photograph is of an (almost) empty cafe, and what makes the empty cafe a little more interesting is the view of one of my favorite teas.

Discern the difference between ordinary conversation and malicious gossip. That’s the key to avoiding bullies. Bullying begins with gossip. Now that you know this, steer clear of bullies by staying away from those who spread malicious gossip about others. If they are spreading it about others, for sure, they are talking about you also. Bullies never stick to one target. They need other targets for when the first target isn’t around. So ditch the bully and go enjoy life!
What you think of me is none of my business – Yes, that’s the name of a good book!
And those words, that is how I get past gossip and past a bully. I never listen to what the bully says. Don’t allow anyone’s opinion of you to get you down or to stop you from reaching your goals. Just keep on keeping on.
When you see a person who spreads malicious lies, keep on walking. Do not entertain that type of person, and go for the “no contact” rule when it comes to narcissistic bullies.
Keep on keeping on.
And keep on walking away .
Never let the bully win.
Keep on keeping on .
For every thing,

NOTE: This is about my photography, my style of photography , when it comes to taking self-portraits. And there is a little background of how I began using this style of portraits , many decades ago .
Below, a “selfie”
First a little about “targets”
About “Targets” :
When someone is being bullied for years on end by the same person, they want to be invisible, yet they as human nature would have it want to be connected and included in their world and surroundings.
A person who is a target might, if they are an artist, photographer, or creative type, might begin taking selfies that ‘include’ the self, yet the person remains ‘invisible’ so that the bully doesn’t see the person. Distancing yourself from the bully is important and sometimes that means even taking yourself ‘out of the picture’ . So there you go, now you know the reason for the mysterious “selfies’.
An ‘early’ selfie, taken decades ago – below
That photo – shadow in the forest – was taken in the year 2000 or 2001 . (Any later dates on the photos url are because the photos were ‘put’ onto the computer at later dates, on various portable storage devices.
Bullying over Decades and Invisible Selfies:
This picture below is one that I took years ago or decades ago.
Someone has targeted me for decades, and decades ago, I began taking invisible selfies. This is more recent. I am , hopefully, free now. But I still like the style of an “invisible selfie”. Yes, silly you, that’s an elbow. You can find ‘targets’ amongst your own friends and family. Sometimes targets leave class early and get there late. Other times targets miss family events (in order to avoid one particular person). But, as time passes, the target will materialize, take their place in society, and they will no longer be silent, nor invisible completely.
More recent selfie, because I still like taking invisible selfies, and I love the forest and preserve areas of the land.
Headphones Help Targets Re-enter Society:
Do you know someone who wears headphones all the time? Possibly that person might be a target. I am not saying this is the case always ,but I’m saying it’s a possibility the person is a target, a silent target.
I know. When I lived in close quarters with a bully, (when I lived in the same building), I wore headphones all the time. Even now, out in public, you might see me with headphones in public areas. And that is to avoid the ‘bully’ who still, to this day ‘looks for me’ . I am no longer staying ‘out of society’. I am trying to take part, to get out more. But I take my strong faith in the God of Peace, and my headphones with me. If I am with you and you see me put the headphones on my ears, it means I have spotted the bully and I am using my first method of avoidance, ‘close your ears’ to what the bully says. And in a few moments after that, depending on how strong I feel, I will either stand my ground or leave the place. No more bullies.
DOUBLE Advantages: Headphones ,
Using headphones as a defense serves two purposes. First it is a visible thing that can alert people around you that the bully is near you or approaching you. (And yes, sometimes I have used headphones when the bully wasn’t around and then regular people approach and I must remember to take the headphones off. They can become a habit , when worn every other day.
Secondly, what you put onto your phone or radio, the music or the talk that you hear through the headphones can strengthen you, give you courage, and remind you that you have a strong faith . So, you are using a tool , the music or the talk , to get stronger and stronger in courage to be able to conquer your fear of the bully. So, headphones work.
And yes, we need to help targets become more visible. I will always take photos like this, because these were my ticket to be ‘invisible’, slowly, one step at a time.
About the pictures below, these are only some of the selfies that I have taken over the years. In some of the pictures, you will see a real portrait, a person. Most of the ones where I am visible, it is because I am on television. At the television studio, I felt safe, because the bully refuses to come near the tv studio. In fact, for decades, the bully has tried to get me to stop producing television. There are times, that I might retreat, but so far, I’m keeping at it.
In June, 2015, I finally became a bit brave and began appearing in photographs, hence, “lightbulb moment” .
It is probably around the time that I began putting pictures online at various sites. Since 1991, I’ve been “visible” on television but invisible in photographs. One of the oldest invisible selfies that I took was the one shadow where there is a vintage light on the wall and the shadow is on the bottom left hand side of the photograph. That was taken in the 90s in New York City, between Brooklyn, and Manhattan, NYS.
What happened to make me more ‘visible’, in photographs? What happened was that the bully stepped up the bullying and at that point, since my brother was gone, I decided it was time to stop hiding from the camera. The person should not have stepped up the bullying after my brother died. That was a mistake. Yet, this was the mistake that really freed me. Today, I feel free. I might not be free, totally, because the bully is still around and still anxious to get near me and to start speaking with me , once again. Today , I feel strong and I feel safer than I had felt in the past.
Part of the reason for this feeling is because of two things:
- A more intense spiritual connection, and that helps me immensely .
- I did a video called, “The Un-silencing of Me” and making that video public was a step in the right direction. It is time that I use my voice to help myself get away from the bully.
Today , I am not afraid of ‘being in pictures’ though I do not like ‘posed’ pictures because these are not real. Candids are better, for me, anyway. Why ‘pose’ for a picture when you can just be real and just let life happen? The only posed pictures of myself that I have are my ‘INVISIBLE ” selfys.
A recent self that I took, look close; Yes, I’m in there.
I am an Executive Producer of a regular show that airs on community television.
Collection of INVISIBLE and visible selfys below:
Please make me visible, connected with the world, by making a comment. Let me know that you have seen me here, in my photographs. Your words are greatly appreciated.
If the bully continues to stay away from me , I will not reveal the bully’s name nor show a photograph of the bully. That’s the plan for now. I believe this is a good plan.
My true and real defense is my faith in God. It is only God, the God of Peace , Who has protected me throughout my life. And I must acknowledge that because truth is important.
My thanks, first, always and forever , is to God. You have read a lot here and you have learned a lot about parts of my life. If you want to help out here, you can help by simply leaving a note — so that I know that someone has read here.
Are you visible or invisible?
Peace on your journey.
And Happy New Year!
So, the good thing about January is that it is this much closer to spring and summer! And I celebrate my birthday for the entire month! And so, for my birthday, I am going to feature my art for the entire month, beginning with this entry. Featured photograph is one of my self-portraits, taken at the “Carriage House” in New York State. Some other (unrelated photographs, my art, below): first picture a collection of my snow photographs
So what’s good about January for you?
