This entry is about two completely different things and time in the USA. The first part is about an ice cream store that we visit every so often. And the second part of the entry is about a book written by Dr. Ben Carson.
First — the picture that I took on the way to the ice cream store.
The picture you see here is one that I took a few years ago. It’s just a water tower. We went to the ice cream store in Point Pleasant Beach, a few years back. Yes, they have tons of flavors! And the ice cream is great! And summer is almost over, well, whether official or not, we still have a few days of summer left. Remember Point Pleasant. On one trip there, I went with my son, and and on another trip, I went with one of my granddaughters and with my son. Another trip was with my cousin, and over the years, I’ve gone there, by myself. You don’t go there just to get ice cream, though you can. There’s a beautiful beach there, and there’s a cutesy touristy area also. It’s a nice “day trip” for anyone.
Rule number one for the ice cream stores, across America. Visit the store on a day when the “back door” isn’t open! And to those who own businesses across America, keep your back doors closed. It’s better for employees, and better for customers.
And now, down to the serious stuff here, the words that I am about to read you come from a marvelous book by Ben Carson, the doctor, who lives in America. Ben lists these (along with others) “action steps”. I’ve done some of them but not all of them. How about you?
This week’s action steps:
“1. Read some of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. s, speeches and see if you can determine why he could be considered a conservative.
2. Determine to stay abreast of current events by reading at objective newspaper or watching an objective news broadcast daily. Avoid news sources that leave out major stories because they don’t fit a political agenda.
3. Consider whether you have ever suppressed knowledge or arguments that disprove a viewpoint that you hold.
4. If you identify an area where you have revised history or selectively ignored a fact, admit it. Challenge those with whom you disagree to do the same”.
These action steps from the book by author Ben Carson, M.D., with Candy Carson, published by Sentinel publishing company.
The name of the book is ONE NATION (What we can do to save America’s Future).
