Remembering the flowers of summer
….. Most of them are not around yet, some hibernating as bulbs underground, others just hiding as woody plants..
This one flower stays all winter long. And it is still beautiful. All year long this beautiful whitw flower stands tall. I like the light color because it brings a natural light into the garden at night, after dark.
I’d been there a number of times before but, before this I had never, ever seen turkeys there.
For the most part, I took one of my granddaughters on the road trip to distant place to see the wildlife that lived in the area. There ere cardinals, bluejays, woodpeckers ,chickadees, sparrows, squirrels, chipmunks, and lots of other animals in the place, in that space. After about four or five trips there, seeing all the same wildlife, one day I decided to stay later. This is the first time that e stayed after 4 PM. Then late in the afternoon, there they ere. Seven turkeys trotting out of the woods.
Here’s one. (See picture)
You can go to the same place ten times and still see something different on the eleventh time you go there. That’s all I’m saying.
You can stand there with your hand out. Bring “black oil sunflower seeds”. The birds and other animals eat out of your hand. Don’t leave seeds on the ground and wait until all seeds are consumed. If you leave food or seeds on the ground, you are inviting or feeding mice or other vermin that are not your beautiful birds. Just saying.
Enjoy your stay at the wildlife sanctuary. It is fun, educational and a wonderfully, calming experience.
This is one of my UNFINISHED collage/painting/photography works … yes, still not finished. I began this one about two years ago, and I’m just not got back around to finishing it. Yes. the paint tube is part of the picture (and part of my tools for this art piece). artfromperry
There are so many ways to heal a spirit, a human being, some more effective than others. Nobody can tell anyone else what to do, however, there are ideas, helpful hints, suggestions, creative ways to adjust one’s moments or days to something more beautiful . These are some ways, some ways to begin healing, to begin climbing out of the past ditch and to begin bringing yourself into your most beautiful, creative and positive present moment. Your suggestions and ideas can only add to this entry and so, look for the place to post a comment or two.
Some of the signs of a good instructor:
- They have the right focus – they teach the subject that they are being paid to teach. They stick to the topic.
- They do not go off on tangents or on rants because of their own personal views.
- They leave their personal lives and personal choices out of the conversation in classes.
- They respect their students — all of their students, not just the ones that do work for them or that help them out.
- They treat everyone equally. That’s right – they treat everyone equally.
- They leave politics and political agendas out of the classroom unless the course is about politics or history. They know enough to leave their personal opinions out of the classroom, especially if they know that they can not control their temper around the issue of politics .
- They know what they are there – in the classroom- to teach and they stick to that topic.
- Basically, we all know the signs of a good teacher, the bottom line is that they teach! They realize they are in the room to teach — not to propagandize and not to push students to agree with them on political issues that they don’t agree on. So, hence, teachers keep your politics out of the room.
Schools and senior centers, and colleges and universities are places of learning, places of connection, places of growth, and places here many human beings from all different backgrounds become connected through conversation, ideas, thoughts, opinions and through personal growth and work towards unity in spirit and unity in the world.
What can I say? I love birds and I love taking pictures of birds. So why is the feature photograph of that old, black cat?
Well, that’s my beautiful, black cat. I got him when he was a tiny, tiny, little character. After spending about two full hours, or more, with him at the shelter in Brooklyn, I chose this kitten to by ours! He was simply beautiful! (When I say, “ours” , I mean that I chose him for us, for our family, at the time when we lived in Brooklyn).
And now, today, he is living happily in the southwest, on some farm. Long story, but he’s there, somewhere.
And now for the entry. I love birds and taking pictures of birds, so there is a small collection of the pictures of birds that I have taken over the past few decades.

TURPIN, a noun, a family name,
What’s that mean to you?
(NOTE) – This reads much better on a computer rather than on a phone because there are lines and spaces in between important topics or in between some paragraphs.
Here’s a fictional idea peace, on a real news story, about kids or families who might be like, “the Turpins”.
This whole peace and this whole entire blog, newsletter, is for entertainment purposes only.
These pictures “in circles” are each just a small part of the original photograph. But they are interesting even though you see a little bit of every photograph.

(I wrote this about or for the “Turpin” children and the innocent “Turpin” adult children who were held prisoner(s) by their own parents (according to the news story online).
They need their freedom, in a safe environment, good food — of their own choices, good music – of their own choices, and good reading material , of their own choices –even if they choose “the Bible”, everything needs to be their own choices in a safe, peaceful environment of freedom.
Pray for the children; they are , indeed, miracle children, miracle that they all survived living with human monsters.
- Purchase a cooling towel. That’s one that is thinner than a regular towel, and made of different material.
- Make fresh lemonade with real sugar and real lemons. Do not add ice.
- Get one huge watermelon and cut it into many pieces.
- Fans- if you don’t have an air conditioner.
- Library – if you have neither.
- Plan for a half-day at the sea. That has to be the coolest spot in any city.
- Music. Smiles . Yes, music can help you keep cool. Get your mind off the heat and you will surely be a cool cat!
Some of these photos are included in a project that I call,
“EMPTY SPACES” .. I took all the photographs, some recently, and some decades ago. All photographs are copyrighted. All rights reserved. No copies without prior written permission.
The first photograph is of an (almost) empty cafe, and what makes the empty cafe a little more interesting is the view of one of my favorite teas.
Below: EMPTY CHAIRS
In memory of those who lost their lives to AIDS. Once a disease empty of hope, now people who have died of AIDS memorialized in a quilt that is larger than seven football fields. A man stands looking at the lost lives, in pictures, in momentoes, in words, surrounding him,
Bus chairs, empty, on a busy day in New York City, USA
Warning sign to passengers, emptying this place , the forbidden zone,
BELOW – – an empty pegboard
My Dad had a few of these in his shop..and on that board were a collection of tools and accessories to tools … pictured here, empty..
(NOTE: ) There are more photographs under this long writing. Look below if you are short on time.
I enjoyed a great morning at the Marquetry Society meeting and then went to this library room. I found a cool book on videography, and opened — randomly– to a page. Imagine that? I just pulled the book open and flipped a page and there was this headline to the article, “After the shooting was over….” .
I read the title of the reading and I paused… “After the shooting is over….” . My brother used a gun to end his life. I, being different than him, use a camera for all my shooting. But still, this headline got to me; it reached into the emptiness of my heart that still mourned for him…reprocessing the words, ” After the shooting is over” .. I wished he would have thought about that. They say that we shouldn’t think of the future, just be concerned about today.
However, in this one case, I just wish he had thought about the future as he made that horrible choice, maybe his last choice, “After the shooting is over….” .
After the shooting is over, I gather his pain was relieved, finally. But “after the shooting is over…” , After the shooting is over, the shooter feels no pain but the survivors, the survivors remember the shooter in a very different way than ‘before’ .
And as I always say, in everything, give thanks. So I look for the good in this horrible tragedy. The healing part was that he did not send his suicide note to me but sent it to someone else. By not sending the note to me, and by sending it to a ‘distant’ family member, he spared me, and my sons and my daughter and my grandkids, that crashing, ‘initial’ discovery , the grim notification by police, by detectives. Thankfully, we were spared the shock, the initial, immediate shock of the notification. I really have to thank God for that. Those days, approximately eleven days, were a buffer from the shock waves. It took me about eleven days to find out the truth about what happened, to get the details, to find out whether the story was true or not. And while I initially thought the ‘not knowing’ was horrible, I realize , in hindsight , that the “not knowing” right away is what saved my mind from the earth-rocking shock of knowing what happened to him right away.
Thank you, dear brother , for sparing me from that grim discovery . Who knows, maybe he did think about what happens, …”after the shooting is over”. …
And the most charming picture in there, in this collection of emptiness, the ray of hope here in the midst of the shadow and darker pictures, is the Cherry Blossom Tree. The Cherry Blossom Tree symbolizes “New Beginnings”. And at this point in time, we own two of these trees, and one of them has started sprouting little trees right after Hurricane Sandy happened.
It is a new beginning, every day is a new beginning!
And every day is YOUR day! So celebrate it.
Let’s CELEBRATE!! Yes, it’s that time of year again; it’s my birthday month!
January is my birthday month and I intend to have a very cool birthday. If everything goes okay, I will be able to find a particular cake that I like and I will bring that home …
And my plan is to celebrate my birthday — all month long — by doing random acts of kindness for some of the people that I meet on my journey around town. Just little acts of kindness, nothing grand, but those little things that are so important. Yes, it’s the little things that are special.
So, I’m planning on a month of little things here and there, and
top it all off with my favorite kind of pie and people !
NOTE: This is about my photography, my style of photography , when it comes to taking self-portraits. And there is a little background of how I began using this style of portraits , many decades ago .
Below, a “selfie”
First a little about “targets”
About “Targets” :
When someone is being bullied for years on end by the same person, they want to be invisible, yet they as human nature would have it want to be connected and included in their world and surroundings.
A person who is a target might, if they are an artist, photographer, or creative type, might begin taking selfies that ‘include’ the self, yet the person remains ‘invisible’ so that the bully doesn’t see the person. Distancing yourself from the bully is important and sometimes that means even taking yourself ‘out of the picture’ . So there you go, now you know the reason for the mysterious “selfies’.
An ‘early’ selfie, taken decades ago – below
That photo – shadow in the forest – was taken in the year 2000 or 2001 . (Any later dates on the photos url are because the photos were ‘put’ onto the computer at later dates, on various portable storage devices.
Bullying over Decades and Invisible Selfies:
This picture below is one that I took years ago or decades ago.
Someone has targeted me for decades, and decades ago, I began taking invisible selfies. This is more recent. I am , hopefully, free now. But I still like the style of an “invisible selfie”. Yes, silly you, that’s an elbow. You can find ‘targets’ amongst your own friends and family. Sometimes targets leave class early and get there late. Other times targets miss family events (in order to avoid one particular person). But, as time passes, the target will materialize, take their place in society, and they will no longer be silent, nor invisible completely.
More recent selfie, because I still like taking invisible selfies, and I love the forest and preserve areas of the land.
Headphones Help Targets Re-enter Society:
Do you know someone who wears headphones all the time? Possibly that person might be a target. I am not saying this is the case always ,but I’m saying it’s a possibility the person is a target, a silent target.
I know. When I lived in close quarters with a bully, (when I lived in the same building), I wore headphones all the time. Even now, out in public, you might see me with headphones in public areas. And that is to avoid the ‘bully’ who still, to this day ‘looks for me’ . I am no longer staying ‘out of society’. I am trying to take part, to get out more. But I take my strong faith in the God of Peace, and my headphones with me. If I am with you and you see me put the headphones on my ears, it means I have spotted the bully and I am using my first method of avoidance, ‘close your ears’ to what the bully says. And in a few moments after that, depending on how strong I feel, I will either stand my ground or leave the place. No more bullies.
DOUBLE Advantages: Headphones ,
Using headphones as a defense serves two purposes. First it is a visible thing that can alert people around you that the bully is near you or approaching you. (And yes, sometimes I have used headphones when the bully wasn’t around and then regular people approach and I must remember to take the headphones off. They can become a habit , when worn every other day.
Secondly, what you put onto your phone or radio, the music or the talk that you hear through the headphones can strengthen you, give you courage, and remind you that you have a strong faith . So, you are using a tool , the music or the talk , to get stronger and stronger in courage to be able to conquer your fear of the bully. So, headphones work.
And yes, we need to help targets become more visible. I will always take photos like this, because these were my ticket to be ‘invisible’, slowly, one step at a time.
About the pictures below, these are only some of the selfies that I have taken over the years. In some of the pictures, you will see a real portrait, a person. Most of the ones where I am visible, it is because I am on television. At the television studio, I felt safe, because the bully refuses to come near the tv studio. In fact, for decades, the bully has tried to get me to stop producing television. There are times, that I might retreat, but so far, I’m keeping at it.
In June, 2015, I finally became a bit brave and began appearing in photographs, hence, “lightbulb moment” .
It is probably around the time that I began putting pictures online at various sites. Since 1991, I’ve been “visible” on television but invisible in photographs. One of the oldest invisible selfies that I took was the one shadow where there is a vintage light on the wall and the shadow is on the bottom left hand side of the photograph. That was taken in the 90s in New York City, between Brooklyn, and Manhattan, NYS.
What happened to make me more ‘visible’, in photographs? What happened was that the bully stepped up the bullying and at that point, since my brother was gone, I decided it was time to stop hiding from the camera. The person should not have stepped up the bullying after my brother died. That was a mistake. Yet, this was the mistake that really freed me. Today, I feel free. I might not be free, totally, because the bully is still around and still anxious to get near me and to start speaking with me , once again. Today , I feel strong and I feel safer than I had felt in the past.
Part of the reason for this feeling is because of two things:
- A more intense spiritual connection, and that helps me immensely .
- I did a video called, “The Un-silencing of Me” and making that video public was a step in the right direction. It is time that I use my voice to help myself get away from the bully.
Today , I am not afraid of ‘being in pictures’ though I do not like ‘posed’ pictures because these are not real. Candids are better, for me, anyway. Why ‘pose’ for a picture when you can just be real and just let life happen? The only posed pictures of myself that I have are my ‘INVISIBLE ” selfys.
A recent self that I took, look close; Yes, I’m in there.
I am an Executive Producer of a regular show that airs on community television.
Collection of INVISIBLE and visible selfys below:
Please make me visible, connected with the world, by making a comment. Let me know that you have seen me here, in my photographs. Your words are greatly appreciated.
If the bully continues to stay away from me , I will not reveal the bully’s name nor show a photograph of the bully. That’s the plan for now. I believe this is a good plan.
My true and real defense is my faith in God. It is only God, the God of Peace , Who has protected me throughout my life. And I must acknowledge that because truth is important.
My thanks, first, always and forever , is to God. You have read a lot here and you have learned a lot about parts of my life. If you want to help out here, you can help by simply leaving a note — so that I know that someone has read here.
Are you visible or invisible?
Peace on your journey.
And Happy New Year!
Smiles and serious faces, a large variety in this collection of photographs, some captions, ask for others. Do you know where these were taken? Do you know any of the people in these photographs? Leave a note, public or private if you recognize anyone.

Okay, the site is going on a re-vamp. What’s changing?
First, less posts. I’ll try and stick to a post of about one or two posts each month, rather than whole collections of posts. Yes, there is quality in, well, “less is more” as they say.
So, even though it’s still December 2017, I’ am going to begin this with
There you go. It’s the end of December and I have already begun to begin celebrating a Happy January!
One of the things that I am changing in order to celebrate HAPPY JANUARY properly is that I am going to stop putting things off. You know, the fun things, the things that have been on my adventure list forever! (In case you don’t get it, an “adventure list” is probably similar to your “bucket list” but I am coming from a whole different viewpoint here). To me, it’s just a beginning, rather than “hey, let’s do this before the end”.
And so, in beginning, or in rather beginning again, I agree ya’ll with HAPPY HAPPY January! And yes, while I’m at it, Happy Birthday to me …
So there you go, that’s the entry for late December 2017!
And here are some interesting moments in the life of a mom, grandma, artist, author, photojournalist and the perpetual student who learns something new each and every day. What did you learn today?
Well, Happy Holidays and Happy Holy Days to you and to your family and friends! Hope all is well with you and hope you have the very best, most wonderful, productive and creative year ahead of you.
Was looking at the winter garden thinking that it really looks like a dead garden. However, not to worry, warm weather comes soon and then the garden will be transformed into the cutest, and adorable unique garden around.
What is your creative week looking like? We would love to hear from you about your latest creative adventures! Leave a comment. Let us know what project you are working on and how far along have you travelled up the road to completion of your project?
Peace for the new year coming, and best wishes to all of you.
Most of the pictures are the stories without words, taken over the years, with point and shoot, disposable, dslr, and slur, and cellular phone cameras/
There is one copy photo in there, called, “skinny kid” . The first time that I saw the Liberty Bell I was quite surprised. I expected it to be so much larger than it was. Though it looks like a “scene”, I took the Liberty Bell picture as a “portrait”.
Thanksgiving crafts, netting, pumpkins, and glue guns. There was a crafts’ night and the organization supplied all the glue guns to use, the leaves and the pumpkins.
First you put a netting around the pumpkin, add the raffia, add some leaves, some beads and whatever decorations you like. And there was this really cute little sign that said, “Add the ribbon and you are finished!
These are the small and medium glue guns. Personally I like the larger Aileen’s glue gun better. But for that one time, the borrowed glue guns really did the trick! Thanks much for the crafts lesson!
Below these photographs is a SLIDESHOW of the garden (might be one or two photos of another garden also; I haven’t checked recently).
These are pictures that I took in the garden , mostly during warmer weather, and a few pictures of some cool meals from the garden. Below this bunch of pictures is a slideshow of the garden.
Flowers, plants, leaves… and views in and from our garden. Nothing perfect, just nature, things growing naturally, no chemical pesticides, no landscapers, just nature .. One of our wonderful neighbors donated a fabulous sage plant . Our hens and chicks stay outdoors all year long and hopefully they will survive another year. The white hydrangeas (missing from this slide show) died out except for a few green leaves and hopefully they will grown back again in summer or spring. The “moon” shot, I took from in front of the garden, one night. And , yes a fabulous friend donated a couple of beautiful tomato plants . I don’t have a green thumb but I’m trying to cultivate … a little more gardening skill , somewhere, somehow. The George Burns roses have disappeared, leaving sticks of thorns for the winter. They are most beautiful.
Planted some more hens and chicks that another friend donated to the garden..and hoping that they will be there in spring , summer. Right now they are being protected by some mulch leaves. I love flowers and plants and love the pictures of them just as much.
You get a gift of flowers and you want to preserve them, what do you do? Yes, you can preserve them in the traditional way, dry the flowers, press them, etc. But what if you want to preserve the picture.
I love preserving flowers — virtually, by photographs, videographs. Flowers are here and there and sometimes gone before you know it. So, next time you get flowers or buy flowers or even give flowers or plants, take those pictures! Some are beautiful enough to frame and hang on the wall.
Take a picture of the flowers and then take a screenshot and you will have your flowers forever. Put them on a disk to share them with others or email the flowers to someone.
I took a picture and then took a screenshot (from our video of the flowers).
One season, I found these flowers at Costco, (much cheaper than at any other store), and I , I planted these beautiful blue orchids outdoors in front of our house and they lasted almost the whole season –until the landscapers (not mine) cut them down , mowed them down. I’m really glad I got to preserve the flowers in my computer .
I’d like to start mini lessons, online , on how to do simple things with your computers or with your garden, almost anything creative.
Here is my screenshot of the our flowers.
These are the coolest. Someday, far in the future, I will plant more orchids. For now, I’ll have to stick to more inexpensive flowers. And I have found a way to stop landscapers from mowing the flowers down. I added a little mini fence to protect the flower area.
Though the landscapers mowed these down, I’ll always have the memory of them as they graced our side/front yard. 🙂
The featured photo there is of a page from a tiny book. Someone wrote this cool book called, “First Aid for the Teenage Soul” ..and I recommend the book. It’s excellent, for everyone.
Note : Remember, you are not in this alone. Wherever you go, whatever you do, seriously, God is with you. Even in any times when you have forgotten God, that never keeps Him from being right there, at your side.
So, I like that page in the book, “You’re not in this by yourself”.
Below this is the slideshow , some of my scrapbook photographs and also some of my photojournalism photos. These are all copies of copies, not originals (for the net) .

The photos are what they are, exactly as they should be, errors, blurs and all. For every mistake , either accidental or on purpose, there is a reason.
Peace … on your journey .
The photos include day trip to Pennsylvania, to Philadelphia to see the “bell”, and other trips, to the NYC Marathon, to the studio, and to the forest. Some of the photographs (the originals) have been published elsewhere (in the 90s) and some were on exhibit throughout New York State, including in Nanuet, NY, Grand Army Plaza and some other places. My photography has been published in a few newspapers, one International magazine, and has been on display in over 55 (solo) exhibits in New York, and in five group exhibits in New York, USA .
Other places, Kutztown, Lancaster, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Valley Stream, Prospect Park, New Jersey, and Manhattan pictured in the slideshow above. Many of the pictures with words are collage pictures, all made from recycled materials (from the 90s through 2016)

Whether you admit it or not, we all have a ‘reset’ machine just like the bowling alleys used to have. They used to have this metal machine that would wipe up all the pins and set them up again, for the next bowler.
And, somewhere, deep inside of us, we have the similar reset machine and it is called, “Today”, a new day, a fresh beginning, starting over, clearing out, renewing and all that kind of stuff but you know what I mean.
Just think of today as the first day of the rest of your life and begin anew! Put all your old thoughts behind you and put the past behind you , (yes, it can be done, at least temporarily), and think of today’s new day.
(The magazine articles and pictures below are from a TIME magazine). The other pictures, the balloons and other pictures, I took over the past few weeks).
I wrote this entry about two years ago and just recently updating it , now.
I added the GIF there , the picture of the flowers and the bird tiles. And now, the for article, “Camping List for Seniors”
Camping List (for seniors and for differently-abled)
- Use the container system but use smaller containers
- Bring the GOPHER (that stick that allows you to pick things up
- Bring plenty of batteries and bring a transistor radio
- Flashlights are important when camping out – keep one or two around.
- You can camp without a campfire . (Use foods like peanut butter and bread and crackers and minute rice, and cheese, tuna and other snacks that don’t need immediate refrigeration. (Tuna doesn’t need refrigeration until after you open the can).
- Get a tent that doesn’t have ‘tubes” . These other tents are easier to set up than the old-fashioned “thread the pole through the tube” kind of tents. Do the research online and find one.
- If you use a pop up tent, practice getting that tent back inside the storage bag BEFORE you go camping. And, yes, once you read the directions and follow the directions, it is way easier to pack up.
- Other camping essentials – wipes, paper towels, water, container system, non-perishable foods, book, maps, gps, reservations (for the camping site), board games (for rainy days), and preferably laptop and cellular phone (Hey what’s camping without those essentials)?
- Debit card and or cash or both for unexpected, unforseen happenings and emergencies.
- Good warm clothing in fall and in winter (and sometimes in summer -depending on where you are camping.
- Tick repellent (most places needed) .
- White sox, these are better to find ticks with . Hopefully you haven’t found any.
- Watermelon . (Yes, that’s a camping essential; what camping books have you been reading?) .
- Bandages, first aid kit, warm clothing.
- Hiking staff or cane, frisbee (doubles as paper plate holder), notebook and pen, extra batteries.
- Bring a relative or friend along on that camping trip.
THIS LIST IS INCOMPLETE, and unfinished.
Make your own camping list that is complete.
